Oregon State Convention!

WOW is the word I will start out with. And if this post gets long, or confusing at times, forgive me... I've had a few long weeks and am still very sleep deprived!

Thursday and Thursday night were filled, I left Medford around 6AM and got home, loaded the rabbits, packed my stuff for the weekend into the SUV and left for Newport. I arrived, I set up a table by the sec'y table to register and parked my rabbits nearby. To my happiness, Tex Thomas couldn't make it to the show (unfortuante for him) but Roger got hired! which was way cool, even though I didn't get him as a judge. They also hired old Vern to replace another judge who didn't make it.

Went crusing in the town, got some pics of the beach... most of the cute shotps were closed so I found a hotel to stay in. Woke up at 6:30 AM, got ready and went to the show. Met up with Vanessa and she took crusty Miami, where I began to groom some of my own rabbits. Mini Lops were up after I finished watching the Satins under Randy.... this was a no comment card show, which ultimately, the first time I saw this in Canby I didn't like it, but I liked it here!!!! It made things soooooooo much more smoother.

Easy Summer Breeze went first, so did Boomerang. He was Opposite Variety and she was Best. Maid Dignified won Best Variety broken :) Easy Summer went Best of Breed! Registered a ton of rabbits. chatted with fellow breeders. clerked. the usual :)
B came around, the placements were swapped, not in my favor but no biggie! I'll deal with 2nds in big classes/competitive rabbits lol!
Registered a few more, and went to town when the show breaked. I got a fruit bowl thing for the banquet and visited the ocean another time. The banquet, was FUN! just like last year but better this year!

Started off with the auctioneering of some items. That broughti n a lot of $$ for the youth going to Louisville this year. McKenna was duchess and Kim was Queen :) After the royalty results us youth, current and old kids who've competed royalty/gone to nationals presented Muriel a surprise award. It was really meaninfgul and we all got to say a little sentence about her and how much of a positive aspect she's been for OLRCB royalty and continuing judge Julie Forestler's dream of sending kids to convention. Then was sweepstakes, I was 1st in Youth last year, so I got a cute.... bag/backpack thing with our names/placement printed on them. Matches up nicely with the aprons we got last year. ha ha! Then, Roger presented my neighbor and LONG time Satin breeder Jackie Alu and city-town friend Carl Hanhart with plaques, inducting them into OLRCB Hall of Fame.

Got some sleep. kinda. Then woke up this morning, show C I watched the Satins and chatted with my old fellow breeders there. I really miss the breed, really really bad! A couple breeds later Mini's were up. Easy Summer was Best of Breed, Boomerang Best Opposite! YAY! Summer was pulled out a few times for BIS, that was exciting!
Registered quite a few more rabbits. chatted. visited a lighthouse before i left, it was really neat to go all the way up inside of it.

I got a TON of pics... but the are large so I have to figure out how to resize. :)

Sighs of relief

My last day of finals was Friday -- so happy!

Saturday morning, 9 AM I showed up to the GPHS track to participate in the Josephine County's Relay for Life event! Basically it's a 24 hour walk for cancer, where you walk / donate money and well there are a bunch of other random things that go on too, but it's all in good crazy spirits and it was a LOT of fun! I also did a LOT of walking! At 10 AM was the lap for surviors, then it was the teams lap... I then walked from about 10:30 to noon, talked with my neighbors (who are cancer survivors and rabbit raisers :) ) then walked a few more laps and... a few more. Sat down around 4 to watch some friends Karyoke... and walked from 5 to midnight straight. No breaks to stretch... nothing. Around 10 PM they started the luminira, which they put decorated bags around the track of people who have died from cancer. The quarter mile track was filled, sometimes 2 or 3 bags wide. Candles were placed inside and lit. Also, HOPE was spelled out on the bleachers and those were lit as well. It was really neat for it to be dark out and the only light was of those as they read the names of those who were not so fortunate. We watched Miss Ter Relay pagent at midnight, sat down for a little while as my friends little brother was in her sleeping bag. Played touch football around 2 AM and proceeded to sleep for a few hours at 3. Prayer, Music and breakfast woke us at 7 where we continued to walk the track.
If you've never done a relay, I highly reccomend it... our small/poor county raised almost a quarter of a million dollars, with the majority being donated while we walked. Many of the "off" events were primarily to raise $$. For $3 you could have someone "arrested" and thrown in a "jail cell" and itwas $2 to bail them out. All $$ was donated, and at $5 a person.... a lot of $ was raised that way just for the laugh :)

I went home, and where my eyelids tried closing several times I manged to stay awake all day.... I looked over Sour Cream's juniors and decided on a couple of does (one which I want to keep) and a couple for Amy to look over. I groomed my 5 rabbits I'm showing at Convention. The srs coming off dainty molts, they still hold excellent flesh condition. I'm really excited because I think this is the best string I've taken to convention... I took 2 BOS last year and BOSV broken.... with a very small amount of animals last year too.... so in high hopes. If no good success, I am still registering rabbits and there for the banquet and FUN! :) I will come back with lots of pictures, I might have my new dig. camera by then!

MAD's babies have gotten so big! But on the bright side they all have nose markings and good color on their back, so they should all be showable by a judges opinion. Atleast IMO if I were to register one, I would consdier that enough color. Kokomo is due on the 9th, it seems like it's been forever! but I want her to do a good job, because I have homes lined up for both her and Miami, so I want to get a good solid doe from this cross!

It's so exciting that Newport is this Fri-Sat-Sun! I should get into town today to go shopping... :)

Mike brought the hay in last weekend. 15 tons.... WOW. Only 3 to 5 tons is for us though, the other goes for the cows. We got a deal on this stuff, the "good" stuff we wanted is going for $250 a ton... which is ridicoulous. Everything goes up when gas goes up.... It was nearly $4 a gal here but they are trying to keep it under...lol.... One station will be 15 cents cheaper than all the others.... ha ha! Between insurance, gas, tuition/books, room/board, the rabbits and my horse... I am broke nearly 24/7 :)

Today I'm going to a coming home party for one of my best friends who was in Estonia, Europe for a year! So even though school is out, my hectic lifestle still goes. I did some updates to the website yesterday, check them out!

3rd time's a charm

LHHR's Mist At Dawn (*GC 4 legs) had kindled 2 DOA litters (9 and 11 each) and we were rather dissapointed by the 2nd time. After her 2nd DOA litter, we promptly re-bred her to LHHR's Buster Blue , our broken blue buck who was 11th in Michigan! She had 8 babies last week, 7 living. They are all broken blues, who look JUST like mommy and daddy! Now that they are healthy and fat, almost ready to open their eyes, we are proud to announce her success :) She has been getting treats every evening because this is extra nice for us to have a live litter from her.

LHHR's Down in Kokomo *GC 3 legs, 1 BIS is due June 9th to LHHR's Mr. Miami *GC 6 legs. We are hoping to get a nice replacement doe from this litter :)

We will be breeding LHHR's Secret Score *1 leg to LHHR's Lil' Hollister *GC 6 legs after Oregon State Convention. She is getting on the larger side, so despite her nice type and the probability that she would have granded, we are going to go ahead and breed her to replace both her and Hollister.

We will also be breeding the rest of our does in June.

Oregon State Convention entries are coming due soon (the 28th!) Not sure who we will enter as solid junior does... we have 3 of them all different ages.... not sure if we should enter one, two, or all three. Eitherway they are all very nice, just at different stages of development.

I would like to say that LHHR's Lela (Stitch x Cloey) won her 4th leg for BOSV, and LHHR's Oopsie Daisy (Bridget x Drizzt) won her 1st leg for best solid jr doe at Canby!

I know I haven't blogged much. Been very busy, but hopefully in a week or so we'll all be better and get some updates done :P

Yreka Results :) +

Morning starts off well... I clerk for the Satins and the Netherland Dwarfs for Cathy S., anxiously waiting my turn for Mini Lops.

LHHR's Summer Dreamin - BEST OF BREED / RESERVE IN SHOW - 4th leg
LHHR's Boomerang - BOSV - 6th leg
LHHR's Maid Dignified - BOV - 4th leg

registered a couple of rabbits... including a Flemish Giant... which was 15 and a half pounds... but such a sweetie! donated 3 chestnut bucks to the raffle, each went to lovely homes!

Show B finally came around.... they were split between 2 judges / tables but it made it go by faster.

LHHR's Summer Dreamin - BEST OF BREED / HON. MENTION in SHOW - 5th leg
LHHR's Boomerang - BOSB - 7th leg
LHHR's Maid Dignified - BOV - 5th leg
LHHR's Secret Score - BJRdoe - 1st leg!

so overall it was a pretty sweet day, all of my rabbits doing well, equally with animals I have sold doing well.

OHI was 3rd in each of the SSB classes, and I believe Mikayla got 3rd in showmanship with him if I heard correctly. He is such a good little buck, I love my VM's from him!

Velotta's Black Pearl and LHHR's Swimmer produced CHOCOLATES for Lacey / Stacey Jackson.... so jealous! Not to mention did she have beautiful blue and blue steel juniors too....

I spent most of Friday cleaning. My cousin picked up the Smoke Pearl jr. buck for Vanessa... and I weaned Sour Cream's babies off of her, giving them one of the big cages. I bred LHHR's Down in Kokomo to her full brother, LHHR's Mr. Miami. I think this cross will produce excellent results! (Kokomo's 1st litter was DOA)
and Habanero missed to RD's Plank Hero, so she will be bred at the end of next month.

Tomorrow I will continue working on the barn.. and if I get time tonight I might update the website!

PCRCBA Results +

Since I'm still somewhat exhausted, I will keep it short and sweet.

A : Karen Fischer - NY

LHHR's Boomerang - BOS 5th leg!
(BOB was "Hope" owned by Jen Hibbs/Joy Ekstrom)
LHHR's Summer Dreamin - BOV 2nd leg!
LHHR's Maid Dignified 1st
LHHR's Buster Blue 2nd

B: Tom Keyes - OR

LHHR's Boomerang - BOSV
LHHR's Maid Dignified - BOSV 3rd leg!?
LHHR's Summer Dreamin - BEST OF BREED 3rd leg!
*SD and MD were my keys, when bred to Boomerang, their babies will be eligible for a gold seal registration sticker!
BOS was "Ian" owned by Jen Hibbs/Joy Ekstrom. will have to confirm how they are related to my stock but I am glad she is doing well with her Mini's too

anyways, had I fun. I even sold a bunny :) and dropped off the two to Mandy... she will be taking them up to WA for Amy of Stormie Haven Rabbitry.

After I got home I moved all the rabbits around... have a couple more movements tomorrow.
Kokomo gets her box tomorrow.

Klara & SourCream's babies are doing good. I especially like Klara's litter.... I wished I had gotten more marked babies in the litter but I'm very lucky I got a single one :)

Yreka.... will be showing Boomerang, Summer and Dignified for sure. Considering showing HHD, chestnut jr. doe. She's getting pretty beefy and with another 2 weeks she may just be slighty "competitive". I will bring 3 to raffle off for the youth (quality bucks, to get more interest in Mini's in N. Cali) and will bring the rest of whatever I have to sell.

I got my KW stuff on Thursday, I was really excited. I used my new carrier bottles today and hopefully, within the next couple of weekends I'll be able to hook up the auto-water :)

I must end with some bad news (thought I'd get the good out first) My old dog died Thursday evening. We brought "Buddy" home while my dad was in the hospital for his first major cancer sugery in October 1994. He was a black lab/pitt bull cross, having lived a happy, long life -- couldn't have asked for a better dog life. It was simply his time to go and it was sad for all of us..... my dog Chopper misses him the most... He's always had a companion dog or two to live with... and now he is all alone! :(

Random thoughts

I took pics of all the juniors and babies :) Here is what we are thinking :
RMM - "Milktip" is going to be a big gal like her parents. Since we can't show her, we plan on breeding her in June. :)
HHD - Coming along very nicely in body -- Her head doesn't match too well with her big body right now, but both her parents were fine in that area? so we'll see.

BD - We wanted to keep the doe, because we really didn't need another buck, but the one buck is oh so impressive!!! We may just have to keep him...

LH1 - with 4 bucks and 1 doe, and the doe being very nice, we are keeping the Smoke Pearl Chin from Lela and Hollywood :) The other 4 bucks are nothing to complain about, but we would like to find them show/breeding homes because they are too nice to pet out.

Klara and SourCream are doing very well with their litters, no losses and they look to be taking after daddy for the most part. I will be keeping Klara's VM buck and there are plenty of does to choose from in SC's litter, so we will decice on one later. SourCream's 2nd litter will be with Mr. Miami we have decided, afterwards both will be up for sale.

Myrtle Point is this weekend.... yay?
Here is who we are showing:
  • LHHR's Boomerang - *GC 4 legs
  • LHHR's Summer Breeze - Reg. 1 leg
  • LHHR's Buster Blue - Reg.
  • LHHR's Maid Dignified - Reg. 2 legs

I would really like to get a 3rd leg on Maid Dignified, she really deserves it..... honestly. And I was looking last night, if she granded, and I bred her to Boomerang, the kids would have a GOLD seal pending their registration. that is something I've always wanted to accomplish, and have been close many, many, many times [but consquently, the does have never granded].

Hopefully my KW stuff will come this week, so I can use my new carrier bottles. If not I will just double up on crocks but the bottles don't slosh all over.... We're still working on getting the barn clean.... we had meant to finish dumping trays today, but it SNOWED! [and still is] and just the other day I almost got a burn from the 90* weather.... what's up with that?!

Regardless, we still have some cages and equipment to sell, I think I will bring one of the cages filled with equipment to sell.... I need to have the one side of the barn clean so we can move the cages to the other side temporaily. I am also on the lookout for *very* lightly used (or in very good condition) stacking cages with trays.... I just cant find the money to buy new ones, esp after my $200 order from KW.... but I would like to have some overflow cages for next summer and future use. I'm in no big hurry, but I'll keep my ears open.

We will be doing some breedings in June.... I will post more on that later but I am pretty stoked, Mr. Miami and Hollister will be two of the bucks we use, and hopefully can offer them for sale after the live arrivals.

Speaking of June..... OREGON STATE CONVENTION catalog is out! Here is the information:
http://olrcb.net/conv08.htm. This has got to be one of the best shows in Oregon :)

After this weekend's show, we will post who will be going to Yreka with us. :)
And if you are wondering what the top pictures are about, they are what started my whole rabbit hobby, Butterscotch and Carmel.... found these pics on a CD while looking for something else. Pics via 1999 or 2000, about a year or two before they died.
I am also updating the website right now, so check back for updates!!!

Small Updates

2 more rabbits left today (Ex. Roman and LGER), opening up a hole and relieving the juniors with a little more space.

2 rabbits will leave next Saturday hopefully (Lela and Buster Blue).

MAD kindled today, 3 days early. She had 11, 3 living (so far) -- outcome does not look good. All charlie marked as far as we could tell. If she loses the 3, we can re-breed her to Buster, hoping her 3rd time will be successful.

Kokomo is due the 30th and Habanero on the 4th. We have no more does to breed for a while so these will be the last 2 to have babies for the time being.

We are going to head to Myrtle Point, stressful decision since we didn't have a lot of reasons to go, but oh well. I need to go to a show for fun, no work... just showin the bunnies and trying to sell some juniors :)
We will have Bridget's 2 Chestnut Bucks for sale, and Lela's 4 bucks (chestnut, seal, opal and smoke pearl). We also will bring Taco Man to sell. We will show 3 or 4.

Worked all day yesterday, getting an array of things done. It hit 90*, which is NOT normal for April weather. It was insane! Besides trimming the horses, today has been primarily to relax. It's way too humid out to do anything productive anyways. Only a few weeks left of school, currently trying to find another job for the summer and get things done! (which has been more possible now that Mike's family is on a road trip).

Not much else to say, might edit the website tonight if I get time. :)

Pondering the "Show List"

We have had to limit our shows this year, but I am still trying to make it to the big ones. :)

In a couple weeks, is the deadline to PCRCBA Spring Triple open show..... but I'm not so sure if I "should" go. I don't have a reason [I'm not working, no rabbits to sell or transport ect.] and I only have about 4 or 5 rabbits I "could" show. But it's back yard [2 or 2 1/2 hours] and it wasn't that bad of a show last year. So I will decide soon on if I "should" go.

Then I am registering at Yreka, on May 10th. It's pretty close show and has always been fun! I will bring some equipment to sell [I sold A LOT there last year], some rabbits to sell and raffle off for the youth, work, and I may have some juniors to show? If not I will pull up a list of seniors to show.

I will skip Canby and Portland. I loved those shows last year but I can't do three big shows in a row... ha ha! I will send a pair up to Canby though who will be going up to Washington.

Then..... getting closer and closer is OREGON STATE CONVENTION! I will be going up Friday sometime [time unknown due to hectic schedule that week] but if they have one this year, we will for sure make it to the Judges Conference [which was awesome last year]! But I can't find much listed on that right now.... so we'll see. If not, there is a double open on Saturday, and a Single Open + Single Youth on Sunday. I will also be registering there so that is another plus to going, even though we would be going regardless. Saturday evening is the banquet, which we will attend... always fun stuff there!

After that we probably won't attend a show until county fair.....that show list will be limited. We will surely go to Crescent City for Labor Day :)
